This has to be my favorite part of bristol.
I go there every saterday to train for parkour and on a sunny day the area which is apparantly 'neglected' is always filled with dosens of people sunbathing, chilling, sitting having a chat etc... so i dont see any reason to build shops on it.

Have any of you moaners walked the extra 1 minute to the other side of the blitzed St Peters church to the massive expanse of the "true area" of castle park? I doubt it by the sounds of it.
The tiny amount of scraggy grass hugging the banks up to the derelict Norwich Union building is all that is actually going to be lost.
Up to pretty recently the whole place was a car park anyway.
Stop acting as if the whole park is being concreted over!

This part of Bristol is appreciated by and means a great deal to thousands of Bristolians and yet the plan is to build over it up to the church and put up offices, shops, cafes and luxury housing, everything that Bristol doesn't need more of. However what we do need is to maintain this part of Bristol which has been described as the 'lungs' of Bristol. This is the most heavily used part of Castle Park and is used by shoppers, Broadmead workers and those just passing through.
It would be unfortunate if people only realised how much they valued it once it has been lost to them.

I've had some great times in Castle park hanging out in the summer reading and stuff. I'm really going to miss it when the new shopping precinct or whatever gets built.

My workmates and I discovered on Tuesday that the west-end of Castle Park (near Bristol Bridge) is to be built on. As regular users of the park, we strongly object to the destruction of this quiet, green space in the centre of Bristol.
One of the justifications for the development is (according to http://www.stmaryleport.com) that the area is currently 'neglected'. We strongly disagree with this unfounded assertion.
For the past 4 years, I have worked in the Castlemead building on the other side of the park. Contrary to the description on the development's official website, the park is always in use - especially in the summer when hundreds of people escape to the park at lunchtimes. The park is well kept, with numerous flower displays planted during the year.
We want to save the park. We've started a site to that end: http://www.savecastlepark.co.uk/. Please visit and add your name to the petition and write to the local council. In addition, this forum would be a good place to let the developers know that the park is not a 'neglected quarter of Bristol', but an important asset to the city which should be kept for the benefit of local workers, residents and visitors.

Chilled here during Freshers week with my new-found friends and some pastries, ace. Nice place to relax after some hectic shopping!
Also a Parkour meeting place if you're into that :)

I met my boyfriend in that park...it means the world to me!
