Back in the 60s I was on hire with a drott skid shovel to city council doing an archeaolical dig.We were looking for a 9th century church flooring on the church ground behind the Bank of England. I uncovered a tombstone with the date approx 1758 sat in the corner. The words said something like buried in ye county of zummerset and we worked it out that he had been buried there 202years and 4 days. also that in the asile we found human remains. therefor the church used to transfer bodies to the asiles for more room in the tombs.Because of this grave writing I presume that part of Bristol was still in Somerset. Whether the archioligists found the church I don't know as I was not required a few days after. I also believe that the archaeologist in charge was my old time troop officer but am not sure.
