Bikers to hog Severn Bridge

Harley Davidson's will be staging a takeover of the Severn View services in Aust, the old Severn Bridge and Chepstow this weekend.

The annual Hogging The Bridge event is planned for Sunday, 21 October 2007, and will see some 3,000 bikes taking to the M48 between England and Wales.

Riders from all over the world will meet at the Aust service station at 10am before a horn is blown an hour later which will signal the start of the ride over the 40-year-old bridge.

The event is organised by the Bridgwater Chapter of the Harley Davidson Owner's Group.

Once in Chepstow the thousands of riders will enjoy stalls, music and shops with themed windows for the event.

Steve Bayliss from the group said: "It's our main fundraising event. The event is now in its eighth year and has raised an average of £10,000 for local charities in both Chepstow and Bridgwater.

"The original idea of the event was Rex Foster who sadly is no longer with us.

"He was supporting someone doing charity walk around the UK and offered to ride his bike with him as he walked over the Severn Bridge. It's grown from there."
