"The skate park is obviously important to us because it's our hobby, our livelihood. After you've been doing it for about three years you come to love it. It's just like home really. "There's nothing better than having an adrenalin rush when you step off your bike after riding in the skate park. It's a great feeling to have, it's relaxing. "One of the best things about the skate park is that everyone can do their own thing and enjoy themselves." Ruth Cornish, from the Southern Brooks Partnership, helped the youths campaign for the skate park. "The skate park is my favourite place if I'm working on the streets because of the young people here. We've done lots of things with them like getting them involved in planning the annual skate park competition." Ruth acknowledges the facility has caused some problems, but it's something she says both her and the regular users are aiming to stop. "We talk to them about the anti-social behaviour which has sometimes occurred around the skate park and how we can work together and try and reduce that. "Originally I worked with a group of young people to actually campaign for the skate park - and that went on for about three years. They helped in designing the whole facility and campaigned to the council, going to council meetings, to say why they wanted a skate park. "So they, the skate park and I are married in some ways ...!" Find out more about the skate park by clicking the audio link below.
