Like Charlie, I was just getting to like Emily. i struggled to like her at the beginning. Personally, I think she didn't mean it in a malicious way. I'm a black person who is 14 years old and the fact that people are defending her and saying "shes young" is starting to annoy me. Even when I was in year 5, I knew that word was used during slavery and shouldn't EVER be used by a person, any colour. It's offensive and no one has a right to say it. I don't really understand how it slipped out anyway, it was completely random and didn't need to be said. Although, I felt sorry for her when she got thrown out. Charlie handled the situation well and was clearly shocked. 'A black girl and an asian girl', sorry to the person bellow, but there names are Charlie and Nicky by the way and how do you know they say the word at least half a dozen times? People need to educated, it's disgusting...They've known eachother for a few days so how can they trusteachother to know she was joking?...I feel for Emily, she's learnt her lesson. She gave Bristol a bad name aswell by saying "where i come from thats how we speak to eachother". In my school. that is NOT how we speak to eachother. She was just trying to get out of the hole she put herself into. Big Brother had no choice but to evict her.
Helena
I live just up the road from Emily and I have never heard anyone use this word in any context
C
John - I have to agree. Let's be perfectly honest; would the same action have been taken if the roles were reversed and Charley had used a similar word or phrase?? The "minorities" should not be treated any differently or this is a form of racism. Yes, the word Emily used is known for being detrimental towards black people in some contexts, but as she correctly pointed out, it has become a part of the vocabularly used in some areas of the country. PC Britain gone too far again.
Dan
Am i the only that like emily here, she shouldnt of been kicked out she was the only real housemate in there BB aint gunna be the same without her, it got boring as soon as she left espescially now lesleys gone aswell all the characters leave and your left with the boring ones. I feel sorry for emily everyones acting like she some awful person for saying the n word that doesnt make her a racist, shes not as bad as people make her out to bad.
anon
she flutters her eyelids and puts on the innocent face. 'I'm a kind person', she says. 'I'm just not like that', she says. And the British public fall hook, line and sinker for it. Well done Actress Emily - an A* performance.
Father Ted
I think most people seem to have a problem with the fact that she is middle-class....it reminds me off an episode of Father Ted..."I here your a racist now Father?"
Lorna
I liken this episode to the Paris Hilton one. There are people who can get away with 'almost' anything and then, one day, they go one step too far. I am so pleased that a line was drawn and Emily had to face the consequences. An event like this gets everyone talking and discussing the issues which is a good thing.
Dan
shame on u BB u made a big mistake u've got rid of 1 of the best housemates in there, i feel sorry for emily the way shes been treated like a scapegoat and the fact u had to drag her out of bed at 3.30am. I was a big fan of emily and since shes gone i gotta say its been boring, u need to put her back in the house i wont be watching from now on, bad decision BB
Damian
A complete joke. It was completely clear that Emily didn't say what she said in a racist way - if she was shouting it in an argument or something then yeah ok. But she was spending time with two friends in the garden - not a situation where she would be out to insult someone. I personally feel that Emily has been treated racially - by saying a word casually which any coloured person would be allowed to say, simply because of her skin colour she has been treaded differently. Now THATS racism. To her. Bring back Emily, by far the best housemouse in there. As for channel 4, well they go from one extreme to another first ignoring Jade and her obvious racial ranting and then punishing Emily for her innocent outburst. Sure there will be racial people out there using this as an excuse to preach their views but the reality of it was there was nothing racial about Emily's use of her words.
Peter Westbury
Emily was a very silly little girl to use that terrible word - but I doubt she is a racist.
Jon
I cant help but feel Emily has been made a scapegoat for BB. If Emily had sat there and used a term offensive to homosexuals or disabled people, I very much doubt they would of kicked her out. The way BB has edited this was perfect for them to clear their name from the incident of CBB earlier this year. I bet they're well chuffed. Media stunt or just well timed coincidence. BB are laughing. I dont condone what Emily said, I just hope the media dont ruin her life for this. Tho, I shall personally be looking out for any comment which may offend the viewing public!
R (again!)
ALSO. Someone said something about rappers in America saying it. EXACTLY, America! She is a 19 year old from Downend, how can she relate to that?! And the word w***** is offensive too, but isn't used as much.
shaunjt
My main concern is that she implied most people from Bristol use that offensive word in daily conversation. Could not Radio Bristol and local newspapers respond by showing to the rest of the UK that Bristol is actually a multicultural and cosmopolitan city. Also, as someone stated earlier Downend is in South Gloucestershire, not Bristol - slightly petty I know but that girl has so let our city down.
Peter Burke
I was browsing through this page and I have to say, a lot of people who have made comments on here need to get a life. You want to ruin one girls life for a stupid remark? I have never met so seen so many hypocritical angels on one page. Wonder if you have ever had a racist thought in your life!
Shun Watkins
Cant believe she even thought of saying the word ******!!! I didnt really like her that much in the house thought she was well up her self!!! I live in bristol my self and no one has ever used that word to me, i was very shock and hope that people so rude as her are never to return to the BBHouse
MARKIEMARK
There is probably nothing more hilarious than the clowns fighting for the 'moral high ground' in the house where none exists.
Eduardo
It was about money. Channel4 lost millions of pounds in advertising from the likes of pepsico withe shilpa affair, they were making a pragmatic choice.
Jane
Even beyond the racial element she has given Bristol a bad name, representing her snobby views, inconsiderate behaviour and ra-ra sense of superiority that is so often associated with students in Bristol.
She was wrong
It’s right that she’s out on her ass. After she initially said the offensive word, she didn’t even think it was a big deal – I guess she’s learnt something from Big Brother in her foolishly short stay!
PeterS.
It's ironic that one of the least offensive BB contestants has been kicked out for being offensive. How many times did you hear her swear? Why is one particular 'bad' word worse than any other?Words are simply labels for meaning that are different to each of us.Sorry to see you go Emily.
sw girl
I just wish I'd had a fiver for every time she said the word 'opinions'.. heheSilly girl, 10 out of 10 for intelligence?... I dont think so
Tony from Wiltshire
It appears to be a new law in this country that only WASPs (white anglo-saxon protestants) can be racist. We (the WASPs) are rapidly reaching the point where we will all be scared to open our mouths for fear of offending someone. Why do we bend over backwards to protect the so called "rights" of any and all minority groups? It really does seem as though George Orwell's "Animal Farm" maxim that "some are more equal than others" has become a truism. I definitely get the feeling that certain minority sections of the commiunity are more equal than I am at the moment.
raggs
I dont think it was meant the way it came out, the thing is everybody is making this an issue and now it has blown out of all proportion
Another Andy - Bristol
If you don't agree with it, don't watch it! I don't personally see what all the fuss is about, i agree with Loopy Lou on this one
Kate
To all those people who think that everyone in Bristol is racist, you must be very small minded people all i can say, get a grip!! I think Charley knew that Emily did not mean what she said in an offensive manner, not that it excuses her for saying it but Charley knew by making a big deal about it something like that would happen, clever girl NOT!!, the other girls werent offended?? NOT!!! Lets hope Charley is next for the Boot the whinging, lazy, spoilt little maddam.Emily is clumsy with her words and a little immature thats it!! it is true that that word is allowed in raps and black people are allowed to call each other it but white people are racist if they do, i have toask myself what is this world coming too??
Grace
I do not Emily meant to be racially offensive and i think young people do use this word and do not realise the meanings attached to it. i think C4 over reacted due to public pressure from before. it is a pity they did not think like that with Prince's William and Harrys view over the Diana program but then they did have as much to lose with that did they.
John
I'm not saying what she said was right but she says the offending word once and gets booted off.A black girl and an Asian girl say the offending word at least half a dozen times each and they stay on the show.Is it only racist if a white person says the word? If so then that itself is racist!Such a load of PC baloney!
LJ
I think BB have done the right thing in taking a firm line and removing Emily although I do not believe that Emily meant to casue offence. However, her ignorance demonstrate the power of 'jokes' and the way they can impact upon marginalised groups within society. Emily is not a racist but her comment was.For all marginalised groups who feel they can 're-claim' offensive language........ take heed.
john craig
she did say it in a fun sorta matey way.. but u just dont say it!! y on earth did she even say it?? it was nothing to do with wat they wur talkin about..she also said all bristol people say that...?? ummmm no we dont!!!
Loopy Lou
I can see why BB has acted this way but if you all really think about it - this word has been glamourised in recent years by the music industry and 'young' black culture. The word is often used within the young black community as a term of endearment, like the word 'homey'. Emily was just trying to fit in with her new friends and I think it's ludicrous for her to be kicked out for doing so. I too am from Bristol and hear the 'N' word banded around in a harmless way quite often. It's about time this word took on a different meaning from the original context it was meant - rap and black origin music has been doing this for years - it's starting to take a new meaning and I think we should be proud that our language can change, alter and evolve to modern life. This word is no longer used in the derogatory way it was meant all those years ago.
Kelly payne
she has to right to call people this. Who does she thinks she is. She may be intelligent but she is obviously stupid.
Paul
I just wonder if this is a put up job to make Channel4 look PC.
Bristol Gal
This is all just so pathetic i mean she clearly didn't mean to say it and she sincerely apologised after. All this is just so BB can get worldwide headlines and con more money off of people. If nothing would have happened in cleb BB then she would have just had a slap on the wrist and would have got on with it. Think this will be the end for BB
Ash
I'm been in Bristol all my 26 years (give or take) and I have very rarely heard anyone speak like that, either in jest or in abuse - Bristol is very multicultural and not a racist place at all. Provincial, Fred? Hardly. Maybe compared to London, but there is hardly anywehere in the country which won't seem provinicial compared to London! Have you been to St Pauls, Easton, Totterdown or any of the many other areas of the city that are thriving with many different races living well together? The fact is Emily was stupid, posh and liked to think she was far cooler than she is. She used the term in a street slang manner, which is very difficult to pull off if you're white, middle class and posh! BB were right to boot her out, but we all know that if CBB hadn't happened she would have probably just got a ticking off. The fact is there are some politically acceptable things to do, and some which aren't. Did any of the girls get in triuble for trying to rip of Ziggy's shorts? What if that had been one woman and a group of men? Some are more equal than others it seems.
Andy - Bristol
The eviction was correct, she said 'I'm the least racist one within the group' which is actually saying, she is racist.
48/49
"I didnt know that Bristol is a racist place."'Course not. It's a paradise that we all act angelically in. "I have just moved to Bristol from London and it is a culture shock !!! It's a little bit provencial !"Yep, in places, and yet it still has the fell of a big city. Gert lush or what!
Benjo (BlackDog)
Hello - its me again! Its so funny when people say - yea but if it was a white person being called something then nobody would kick up a fuss. Well the thing is - when you are apart of a Racial Minority - you kinda feel a little more vulnerable to words and terms. Its the way words make people feel - so nobody has the right to say - oh 4get it its only a word. This isn't about race its about feelings! Grow up - and it nothing to do with Bristol! I'm a Black Skinhead - how does that confuse you...?
Oh dear...
"It's a friendly term WHERE I COME FROM"?!?!? Stupid girl, give us ALL a bad name why don't you. Ignorant people like her that don't even realise how offensive that word is in ANY context but especially WHERE SHE COMES FROM...does she know the history of our city...go back to your ignorant cocoon you Muppet.
James
What upsets me the most about this is the fact that a main news article is about a stupid TV show. Has it really come to this?!?! Surely the news is there to inform the people of important happenings in the world/region for that day, not telling you what is going on on the telly... all of you who actually care about this rubbish seriously need something to do...
Mark
Perhaps Emily has taken over the mantle of Vicky Pollard, who has been the de-facto face of this once-great city for about the last 5 years. As for Bristol being 'provencial', I had no idea that we were in the south of France.
Benjo (BlackDog)
This is so funny! Its all media hype - why do you people get so sucked into all this rubbish? This was meant to happen, if it didn't then people would still be moaning about the last BB and how poeple didn't get kicked out. Its all a pre-planned part of the game! As for the comment its self - well... it could have been abuse or in jest. That depends on the context of the conversation and the relationship between the two girls involved.
!!!????
Came on to the Brisyol site to see if everyone was uniting in whole scale condemnation of this girl and her claim that 'everyone says it where I come from' Sadly, if the comments here are anything to go by, she may well be right! Shocking.
gibbs
gorden ramsey should be stopped because of his use of the f word .this is more offensive than the fuss caused in big brother
Shocked and Stunned
This is just so sad. How could this idiot possibly think that it's ok to use the n word? More disgustingly, to say that this is "ok where she comes from"? Is this true? Can I now say the word anywhere in Bristol? Maybe I should try it the next time I get on the bus.
Ban BB is ****
If this word that was used is so offensive, why are C4 allowiung the public to hear what she said? It woudl have been better to throw her out (alough if she said it in the house and all the house mates were ok, should just have been warned) no one needed to know why she had gone, so it is obviously a media stunt!
gibbs
gorden ramsey should be stopped because of his use of the f word .this is more offensive than the fuss caused in big brother
Cazza
I love it when these pathetic wannabe's come crashing down. They just want to be famous. Stupid comment, granted, but i think it will teach her one of the biggest lessons of here life. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!! YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT.
mr blank
i am soo happy that she has been booted out....after saying the word she says its used all the time from where shes from. I didnt know that Bristol is a racist place.
Celia
It’s about time that this programme was taken off the air for good. Channel 4 obviously has no regard for decency, perhaps the Broadcasting authority should be looking at how Channel 4 operate.
Fred
Rappers and comedians, both black and white say it. A 19 year old white girl says it and gets booted off TV. She made her apologies that should be enough as she did not mean to offend. She was trying to use the word and a term of friendship. If she was black, it would not be an issue of course. If a black women had called a white women a "w*****", would that have been a problem.
incredulous !
I always thought the reason some black people choose to call themselves "******" was to "own" a word which had been used for centuries to de-humanise and dis-empower them. I have just moved to Bristol from London and it is a culture shock !!! It's a little bit provencial ! Oh and Laura, from Bristol, you say "It highlights the fact that no one can say anything about racial minorities these days, even in jest!" My heart goes out to you !!!
nick
She gets boot for saying the word ,yet two other housemates say the same word in the same context but arnt booted out. thats not fare and its a double standerd. if the word is ofensive it should be that no matter who says it.
Rupert
Emily's treatment was far too harsh. - The The UK needs to lighten up !!! It was only a word.... plenty of insults are exchanged in the BB house. Many offensive terms are used all day long by other housemates. C4 made her a scapegoat which is a shame as she was the hottest housemate !
Steve
Well, she's an actress, done lots of stage productions, can do all kinds of accent etc. BB needed something to get it on the front page. It's got you all talking about it. I can't believe you all fall for this rubbish! BB is playing you all for saps.
Spam
Nobody found the movie white girls highly offensive, can you imaging if the races were the other way around? There would be riots. Likewise when Ziggy was chased around the house and all the girls were trying to strip him, jeese imagine that the other way round with a gang of guys trying to strip a girl. Society is full of double standards. Charley has probably done more harm to the image of women around the world in the last couple of weeks than poor Emily's innocent remark. The world has actually gone mad, the nanny state rules, the irony being that Big Brother is watching you!
Andy
Why did she have to come from Bristol! The word in its context was offensive, however it is true that it is often used in rap music. I think BB did the right thing to evict her, its just a shame we can't evict her from Bristol!
Ash
and the funny thing is that only 3 hours before, Charlie was mimicking Chantelle's northern accent...is that not offensive as well? I am not saying emily was right, and i agree that it was inappropriate but i do feel that the world is becoming obsessed with this...Jade was a million times worse...i think what worried me the most was that Emily said all people where she comes from (bristol) talk like that!!
Rhi - Lil Stoke
well well well! what a show!! sorry but its a word u know NOT 2 say, especially in the public eye. Just proves shes a dippy blonde who lets her peroxcide get in the way of her so called brains!! yeh black peeps say it to each other but for a white girl 2 say it to some one she has known 4 a week is uncalled for... MUPPET! I'd like 2 see her go down 2 St.Pauls/Easton and say it and come out standing. For some one who thinks shes prim & proper its blown up in her face. Enjoy life Emmmerly!!!!
More Annoyed
Emily clearly didn't mean this in a racist way. Stop making such a big deal out of it. The 'N' word is VERY commonly used between people of all cultures in a lighthearted way. Racism exists in all directions across all cultures. Lets stop the oversensitivity and paranoia that only white people can be racist. This is just an excuse for people to get on their high horse. In the same social context most people would react in the same way as Charlie, that she knew it was NOT meant in a racist manner. Grow up world, stop believing what the tabloids tell you to and learn to think for yourselves.
Mike Allen
The way i see it she shouldnt have used that word, for a white person to call a black person that word is very offensive!. i wish all black people and white would stop using the word, especially in rap and r&b songs, that way when it was used we would know they were rascit. Rather than people hiding behind the 'i heard it in a rap' song bull.
I
I hate the fact that she's making it sound like everyone here uses that word all the time.
Ian
What difference does it make that she's from Bristol? This is being blown all out of proportion by the media, but most of all Charlie!Pathetic and trash TV, more and more like America everyday!
SB
The whole world is racist anyway. Get over it.
Matt
So Emily is thrown out for saying n****r, are we going to start banning all rap, R&B music which contain the same word? The times have changed, i cant walk around town these days without hearing some young lads calling themselves this word. Yes, it 'Did' have an offence meaning, and yes if you use the word in an offensive manner, of course its bad. But nowadays, youngsters use the word as a 'brothers' 'friends' term.
Luke Weyman
I think Big Brother over reacted with this. That jade random woman said worse and got away with it.Stupid really.Ah well, she is an Essex girl after all, gotta feel sorry for them.
48/49
It can't and shouldn't be condoned, rightly so in my opinion, but what she said should not reflect on Bristol or Bristolians. Let's get it in perspective; she's from Downend, not Montpelier or Easton. It's hardly the multi-cultural centre of the city, and if you don't open your eyes you don't see the rest of the city and it's diverse population. It's probably better to say she's from South Glos. and be done with it. Or maybe just blame her upbringing?
Marbs1001
I'm ashamed to come from the same City as this lowlife - is she really from Bristol??
Annoyed
Yet again the media have blown this out of all proportion and C4 is playing into this mindless media game. I can't help but feel sorry for Emily as she clearly isn't racist, she merely said something she shouldn't have. Now the media will pretend to be outraged in the name of selling papers for a few days at the expense of someone's reputation. Be nice to her Bristol!!Also Shilpa Shetty is clearly forgetting that C4 brought her into the spotlight so she shouldn't be so quick to criticise. As if anyone would care about her had the whole Celeb BB affair not happened around her. C4 made her in the UK and she obviously doesn't object to that!
Fan
She was already giving Bristol a bad name with her whining snobbery, now she's brought us all to shame.
Anon
She hasn't shamed Bristol, that's a ridiculas statement! She said something stupid, we all say stupid things and okay she should have engaged her brain first but we are all guilty not doing that, at some time. She is human, humans mess up. I don't agree with using that language and I believe the BBC had to take measures after the last BB but don't judge her entire person over it!
Browner
I'm just hoping that the other 11 say something wrong and they can all be thrown out thus ending this and other reality show!
DAR-BRISTOL
what a embarassment to Bristol, very stuck up and immiture girl-deserved to get the boot.
Non BB fan
Back to normal life for her but no job as TGI Firday will sack her as they would not wish to be seen to have a small minded bigot woking in they company. She wanted fame but now she want to hide, oh how life its odd!!
Tim
Considering the hot water channel 4 has been in recently- think Shilpa Shetty and recently Diana, Emily had to be seen to be punished whether deserved or not.
Gary
Well thank you for putting Bristol in the spot light. A silly, childish girl who should think before she opens her mouth. In saying that we do live in double standards, a rap record can use that word over, over again. Black people use it in street to each other but get one white person say it in a non meaning way and the hang man it out!!
BB Fan
She have to go back to waiting tables at TGI fridays now!
Watcher
Its unfortunate that the Shilpa Shetty affair happended before this. Before, Emily would have still been in the house with a slapped wrist and it would have all been forgotten by the following week. On one hand there is C4 trying to look good by making an example of one person. On the other hand there is P Diddy making millions out of record sales (eg Bad boy for life) where the said word is included. The world is a confusing place.
Local
How dare she bring shame to Bristol and her parents in this way - hope they severely punish the stupid child.
abbie/ charlie &. corie
How PATHETIC!. she was obviously joking.lOve Us BRISTOL!. PeOple x
Walkes
Hopefully this will start the downfall of reality TV
Lynsey
all i can say is good. She was rude and thought she knew it all. She is stuck up and it does not matter what you call your friends you cant say things like that on national TV after everything that has happened!!!
Zeev
This was SOOOO obviously set up...what a pathetic story to come out of a pathetic programme.
Jon
It's her sister, Amanda i feel sorry for.To be honest, i think it is an overreaction, after all, there are plenty of radio stations who play music by artists who use the 'n' word
robyn hoode
Is she from bristol or just happening to study here? I'd liek the distinction to be made please. She comes across as rude, argumentative and spoilt... Not something I want related to Bristol in worldwide media please!
Richard - Again
Thinking about it, I wonder when the vote to allow her back into the house will begin. Could this be a Channel 4 ploy?
anon
At the end of the day BB have to show that it is totally unacceptable to use the 'n' word and giving her a warning would not have shown the other housemates how serious a thing it is to use racial language in the house.Emily was far too up on herself and really needed bringing down a peg or two. Glad she's gone.
Paul
It was clear in the BB rules that to make racist remarks was unacceptable and would result in eviction. It doesn't matter what the context was and demonstrates a lack of intelligence on her part for choosing to ignore the rules. There could be a debate about the word being de-stigmatised in popular culture but this was not the place to have it. The eviction is justified in my opinion.
Jase MelonFarmer
I feel embarassed that this "wannabe celeb" hails from Bristol....a city known for its multi-cultural background. As for Lauras pathetic excuses below, you are just as bad to be honest...how can anyone condone that sort of comment? It doesn't matter what time of the morning it was said does it? Anyone with half a brain in this day and age does not even think about that type of insult anymore, let alone "say it in jest"...At the end of the day though I hope this Emily gets forgotten about quickly and goes back to her normal life of stroking ponies, wearing pretty ballgowns and whipping a few slaves.....
Richard
I think she needs to grow up quite a lot. If she said that while working in most companies she would be sacked, they have done the right thing by kicking her out. She will regret it, I'm sure.
Sadie
I can’t believe that anyone would consider using the 'n' word as it is highly offensive and there is no justification for its use. It just highlights the stupidity and ignorance of the girl.
Laura - Bristol
I think that BB exec's have over reacted this time! They've gone from one extreme to another. The comment was said at 3.30 in the morning when there would have been limited viewers anyway and was clearly said in jest and was a slip of the tongue. If it had been said in the height of arguement or behind someones back, then fair enough but this was not the case. BB should have warned her and refused to screen the footage, dealing with it this way has simplt given it extra exposure. It highlights the fact that no one can sy anything about racial minorities these days, even in jest!
Kate Eldon
She should had been very careful about what she said. She knows it had got someone else into trouble.
Nicola
Emily has been highly annoying from the start, with her self obbsessed attitude and constant arguing! She is always looking for an argument and goes on about how she expresses her opinion but is not willing to listen to others opinions! Typical spolit immature teenager!
