Spot owls during half term

The Hawk and Owl Trust is giving families the chance to see owls in their natural habitat in South Gloucestershire.

The walks, hosted by trust member Ian McGuire, will take place across the autumn half-term holiday.

Those taking part will also be able to meet Jazz, one of the trust’s tawny owls.

The first walk is scheduled for Monday, 23 October, at Wapley Bushes Nature Reserve in Yate which has flower-rich meadows and woodland. Meeting time for this walk is 7pm at the Shire Way entrance.

Tuesday’s Owl Prowl moves to Monks Pool reserve in Winterbourne and will take in a series of ponds, wetland and woodland.

Parking is available at the meeting point at Winterbourne Barn, next to the church, at 7pm.

The next event is planned for Monday, 30 October, at Huckford Quarry in Winterbourne, next to the River Frome. Meeting is by the interpretation board on the footpath to the Quarry, off Common Road at 7pm.

The final walk is planned for Tuesday 31 at Ridge Wood in Chipping Sodbury. Meeting is 7pm off Quarry Road.
