The debate comes in the wake of the decision to rename Merchant’s Quarter, the city’s new shopping district, because of its links to slavery.

Guardian columnist and broadcaster Professor Anthony Grayling will chair the debate alongside a panel of experts.

They include Ekow Eshun, the artistic director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and Isabel Hilton – also a Guardian columnist.

In recent years, Liverpool Council and the Church of England have both apologised for their roles in the trade.

Next year marks 200 years since Britains abolition of slavery.

Do you think Bristol should apologise for its role in the slave trade?
