North Bristol churches make some noise

The Noise is now a permenant fixture in the North Bristol calendar. This is the fifth year running that local churches have joined forces to serve the Horfield and Lockleaze community and now into Manor Farm area too.

More than 150 volunteers will be involved during the weekend which is supported by many local organisations, schools and community neighbourhood trusts.

"Far too often, our society knows what the Church is against, this is an opportunity for the Church to make a 'noise' and show God's love in practical ways," said Stuart North from The Noise Office.

Ebenezer Church, Bridge Community Church and St James Church will be working hard to serve the residents of Horfield, Lockleaze and Manor Farm.

Some of the projects include:

• Rubbish & litter clearance in community areas
• Free car washing service at Upper Horfield Community Trust, Horfield and Lockleaze     Day Centre, Lockleaze and another location in Manor Farm
• Two free Kids Clubs at St James Church, Lockleaze and Upper Horfield Community       School
• Free Banquet for Senior Citizens at Ebenezer Church, Horfield
• Community Transformation Projects
• Sports activities and tournaments for young people

In the previous years, The Noise has rounded off the weekend with a free fun afternoon to which the whole community is invited. This year, it has all got bigger with two free fun afternoons at the same time.

Gainsborough Square in the heart of Lockleaze and Horfield Common (opposite the new Horfield Leisure Centre) will be transformed – bouncy castles, inflatable assault course, face painting, hair braiding and lots of other entertainments.

The Noise Roadshow will be running throughout the afternoon featuring music, interactive entertainment and special guests. The fun afternoons are on Monday 1st May from 2-5pm.

"The Noise is a project that really benefits the local community," said Richard Reddrop, Development worker for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust.

"I get a lot of feedback from people who can't believe that people would give up their time to help out and it really builds community spirit."

The Noise website at www.thenoise.org.uk is regularly updated and will be throughout the weekend with photos and information.  Click on the link at the top right of this page.

To register for the senior citizen banquet on Sunday or the kids clubs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, please call The Noise Office on 0117 9791399.
