Children follow woodland trail, Oldbury Ct

Oldbury Court Estate

Stunning riverside walks and one of the best children's parks in the city are to be found at Oldbury Court.

With pathways suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, the estate offers easy access for all park goers and something to do to suit all tastes.

The estate house no longer exists, but the site on which it stood is still known as Vassalls, after the last family who lived here.

The estate itself has a mixture of established woodland and riverside walks and is a great escape from the pressures of the city.

Footpaths are well signed, so you can explore quite easily and discover for yourself some great views of the River Frome.

There's lots to explore

The estate was designed by Humphry Repton to maximise enjoyment of the natural environment - and the pathways wind their way through the park as part of the Frome Valley walkway.

You can wander the paths connecting other parks along the Frome such as Snuff Mills and Eastville Park.

There are plenty of picnic spots and flat Tarmac paths which are suitable for wheelchair access and pushchairs.

It's also a great place to grab a fishing net and teach youngsters how to catch sticklebacks (and then carefully replace them in the water of course!).

For the more adventurous there is an orienteering path, and a short horse trail around the estate.

Football pitches are also available for hire.

Park

Kids will love the playground near Oldbury Court entrance car park, just a few minutes from Fishponds main road – it’s one of the best in the Bristol area.

Children will love the large play area

It has a great range of facilities, which will provide hours of entertainment for toddlers right up to children of 11 or 12 years.

A favourite of the little ones is the colourful train - and there are plenty of benches for parents or carers to have a bit of a rest - and often an ice-cream van to provide much needed refreshment.

Location

Approximately four miles north east of Bristol city centre in the Fishponds area, there are two car parks offering easy entrance to the site.

Oldbury Court car park is off Oldbury Court Road in Fishponds and Snuff Mills car park is at the end of River View in Stapleton.

There are also several other pedestrian entrances around the estate's perimeter.

The estate is open from 8am to dusk and admission is free.
