Canterbury Tales for Bristol

Sixteen Bristolians who have written short stories celebrating the life and times of people who live and work in the city, have been selected to have their stories published.

Bristol Tales was run as a competition earlier this year by York-based publishers ENDpapers.

Bristol Tales launches on 14 November

The aim was to collect short stories into a book that gave an insight in to what it was like to live in the city today, and came off the back of York Tales.

ENDpapers director, Maggi Jackson, said: "Bristol is definitely a hot-bed of writing talent.

"We were thrilled with the entries and feel genuinely honoured to have the chance to bring these writers to public attention.

"Publishers too often go for the safe option, suck their teeth, and do nothing to promote new talent.  Bristol has every reason to be proud," she added.

Of the 16 stories selected to be published, local judges have chosen their three favourites.

Three Bristolians scooped the awards: Maithreyi Nandakumar took first prize, James MacVeigh, second and Steve Probert third.

Glasgow Tales and Tyneside Tales are also due to be published in November.

Bristol Tales will be launched at Borders in Clifton on 14 November at 6pm.
