Local bands unite for quake appeal

Local bands in Bristol are doing their bit to help with the South Asia earthquake appeal - by playing football.

Eight groups from across the city are to play a mini-tournament at the end of October.

The idea for the event, at Thornbury Leisure Centre, came from Underdown's guitarist Nick.

The band decided it was so good they got together with their manager Mark to organise the day.

Mark said: "We've got eight teams in total, we've got a trophy which will be presented at (the club) Mallace in November."

The event is partially for the earthquake appeal, but some of the money will also go to a local charity called the Inspire Trust. They help youths with behavioural problems by teaching them music.

"The main one is the earthquake appeal, we're sending most of the stuff to that one," Mark added.

"We've got more than 150 seats, so there's spectator space, hopefully we'll get fair amount filled.  We're charging £2.50 per person, with all the cash going to charity."

If you want to go along and watch the tournament takes place at Thornbury Leisure Centre on Sunday, October 30 between 2.30 and 4pm.
