Steve Cram could help you

Cram's marathon masterclass

Is the lure of the pub on long, summer nights too much? Do you need a bit of a helping hand with half-marathon training?

Look no further than a series of masterclasses which have been organised to give runners a leg-up for the October event where you could get help from top athlete Steve Cram.

The events, organised by race sponsors Reebok and Bristol City Council, are pitched at all levels of runners and aim to help them get the most out of the race.

The monthly classes will give information on fitness, performance, healthy lifestyles and race-day preperations.

You will also be able to ask questions of experts such as Bud Baldaro and Alan Storey, both UK Athletics coaches.

The first class takes place on June 22 at Bristol Lawn Tennis Club hosted by the Great Western Runners Club and will focus on preparing for the half-marathon.

The next class, on July 20, is at Whitchurch Sports Centre and is hosted by Bristol & West Athletics Club - where one of the experts will be Steve Cram.

The other masterclasses are on August 25 at Oldland Football Club and September 19 at the University Sports Ground on Coombe Dingle.

All of the classes run between 7pm and 9pm. You need to be at each venue to register between 6pm and 6.30pm, and places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

Councillor Simon Coo,k from the city council, said: "This is the first time we have organised a series of evening masterclasses. They are a brilliant way for would-be half marathon runners to gain first-class advice and guidance from some of the UK's top athletes and coaches.

"It is a real coup for Bristol to be able to welcome Steve Cram and our thanks must go to Reebok and to the local clubs for making this happen."
