Ghosts and ghoulies could well be spotted by those brave souls taking part in the 90 minute walking tours, which reveal some of Bristol's hidden depths, and spookiest secrets.
Venues the tour visits include the Odeon Cinema which is allegedly haunted by the ghost of its 1940’s Manager who was murdered there in 1947. His ghost is supposed to haunt screen three of the cinema and also the walkway between screens one and three. Strange things have also occurred in the old restaurant on Union Street (now a jewellers) that backs on to the cinema. The tour also visits an old house in St Nicholas Market, so badly haunted that its owner is said to have jumped from his bedroom window in fright back in the late 19th Century! The Haunted and Hidden Bristol Tour has been running since May and according to organiser John Hughes has had some spooky success.
"We did have a lady medium on the tour in June who felt a presence of a little girl whilst we passed the old Rummer pub in St Nicholas Market, " he told the BBC Bristol website. Over Halloween weekend the tour runs on Saturday October 30th at 9pm and Sunday October 31st at 2pm and 8pm. Anyone interested in joining the tour, which costs £5, should meet outside Bristol Cathedral on College Green. And remember - don't have nightmares! |
