search help

Search

To find a particular Breathing Place, town or county, use the exact name eg. "Bedfordshire", not "Beds". For example, a search on 'Belper' will find all the Breathing Places around Belper; a search on 'Belper Parks Local Nature Reserve' will only find that Breathing Place; a search on 'Lydgate' will ask you which Lydgate you are looking for.
advanced search help

Advanced Search

You can use the drop down menu so your search only shows places with events/ walks within the next week/month, places that need volunteers or places with a particular event theme. The search results list will show you what you asked the search to include. To broaden your search again, change the drop down back to 'All'.
Browse A to Z help

Browse A to Z

Are you're looking for a particular Breathing Place but you don't know where it is? There's an A to Z index of place names you can browse. You could also try the usual search but you would have to know the exact spelling of the Breathing Place name as it is listed in our database.
map navigation

Navigating the map

Reposition the map by using the up, down, left and right arrows on the control panel. You can also drag the main map to a new position with your mouse or drag the blue box on the inset map. As the map is moved, new places will appear.

Click the plus and minus symbols on the control panel to zoom the map in and out. You can also drag the slider bar up and down. Zooming to street level may be useful if you need directions to a Breathing Place.

map/text view

Map/list view

Breathing Places are shown as icons on a map and in a results list. When you hover over the list with your mouse, the relevant icons will go green on the map. You can choose to see just the map but if you click on the links in the pop up bubbles, you'll get the map and list view back so you can see all the information. You can also choose just the list without the map.
leaf icons

What do the leaves mean?

Click a single leaf icon to see a bubble with info/links for that place. Multiple (tiled) leaves indicate several places. If the places are too close together to show separately, clicking the leaves shows a bubble with a list of places. If there are too many places to show, clicking the leaves will zoom the map in.

Keep up to date with Breathing Places. The link under the search results will tell you when new places/events are listed for the town/city you searched on. The link on a place page will tell you when there's something new to see on that page (eg a new picture or event). Find out about the news reader software you'll need to have on your computer here.
