Green Grimsby

North East Lincolnshire is the north east part of the historic county of Lincolnshire. Covering around 190 sq kl it has the Lincolnshire Wolds to the south west, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The county is on the south bank of the Humber Estuary a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Under a European Directive it is also a Special Area for Conservation with its varied wildlife habitats including, on the sand dunes wildflower areas with Southern marsh and common spotted orchids.

Birds flying across North Lincolnshire estury

Under the European Birds directive it is a Specially Protected Area with over 500,000 birds dependant on the estuary for over wintering and migration. Up to 150,000 birds can be living in the estuary in the winter period. The area also has 3 Local Nature Reserves and these are also Breathing Places along with Weelsby Woods soon to be designated our 4th LNR.
