Green at heart
East Staffordshire lies in the heart of England and is part of the National Forest. The two main towns are Burton upon Trent, famous for its breweries, and Uttoxeter, famous for its race course. The rivers Trent and Dove flow through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Midlands and we are lucky to have wildlife havens such as the Trent Washlands and Branston Water Park (an old gravel pit that is now a nature reserve).

As the Parks and Countryside team of East Staffordshire Borough Council we were already running events and activities that encourage our residents and visitors to enjoy our wonderful open spaces. Becoming a Breathing Places community was an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of our open spaces and the abundance of wildlife that we have right on our doorsteps.
This year we are hoping to build on what we already do for nature here in East Staffordshire by using the Breathing Places events as a focus to get more people involved and active.
