About the Show

Clive Anderson on the showClive Anderson hosts this challenging brain boggling quiz in which contestants battle it out to win money from the ‘Brain Bank’ by proving themselves in a sequence of brain games which test their memory, language, visual, numerical and spatial skills. 

Competition is tough in the Brainbox arena and there can only be one reigning champion - lose a brain game and you’re out of the contest, win and there’s an important decision to make: ‘Will you take the cheque or take the challenge?’  Play safe and take the money or risk it all by playing on, but losing the next battle will mean losing the cash in the Brain Bank.  Win the battle and the champion will climb even closer to the Brainbox jackpot of £10,000!

The Brainbox Challenge title sequenceThe Brainbox Champion at the end of each day also gets to play the bonus game and secure up to £1,000 in the ultimate ‘Brainbox Challenge’. They then return the following day to defend their title against a fresh set of challenging opponents.

The programme features contestants from all over the country whose professions range from Police Officer to Fashion Designer and Sandwich Maker to Student. The players are selected at random to compete against each other by computer and they have different strengths and weaknesses across all of the programme’s games.

By profession Clive is a barrister. However he received his taste for comedy and performing when he studied at Selwyn College, Cambridge between 1972-5. He was President of the Cambridge Footlights for a year and wrote and performed in several revues including 'Stage Fright' which he directed.
