There
is a radio studio in Turnshaws School in Kirkburton, some of the
students at Almondbury High are making a television documentary
about the whole Voices project and the pupils at Shelley High have
taken up the challenge to create webpages for our BBC West Yorkshire
website.
Shelley
has a group of very dedicated students who stay on after school
every night just to make pages for the Voices section on this website.
We went down to take a sneak preview.

Laura
is one of the founder members of the Cybercafe. She explains why
she got involved: "Originally I did not have the internet at
home so I came to Cybercafe, and it was really good fun, and basically
I made a lot of new friends. We all thought the Voices project was
a really good idea."
She
says the group feels have had some good ideas for the Voices pages:
"We thought we would like to do a bit on the local history,
follow some of the projects through school like the murals and photographs,
and find out what people thought when they were doing them and we
think we are going to do really well."

Laura
explains why she thinks Voices is important: "I think that
young people can do anything really if they get their mind to it.
We're just showing we can do things and we're very thoughtful about
it."
Adam
is another founder member of the Cybercafe. He says: "I think
it's really good because, within local communities, everyone should
know each other really well, I feel. I used to go to Kirkburton
Middle School which is situated just next door to Turnshaws. There
was quite a clear link and I felt sad when I moved up to Shelley
that this link should be lost and I feel it's about time this link
should be re-established."
Adam
says the web pages are very much in their early stage but people
should watch this space.
