Voices: Turning words into action
the site of the makeover Makeover madness!

As part of BBC Voices at Turnshaws, it's time to get out the wellies and put in a bit of hard graft to transform the Burton recreational ground into somewhere that children of ALL abilities can enjoy!
The makeover site

BBC Voices Producer Claire Williams says: "Working together with Kirklees council, the Parish council and many local businesses and community groups we hope to transform the existing playground into a tranquil play and picnic area over the course of one weekend - the 28th and 29th of June. Everybody is welcome to come down and lend a hand, and hopefully have some fun at the same time!"

Join in the makeover madness!
Claire says the weekend will be the culmination of months of work: "We're hoping that the makeover will mean the recreation ground will make it more accessible and inclusive for everyone at Turnshaws - many of whom are wheelchair users. Over the weekend, we'll be painting the existing play equipment, rebuilding a VERY long dry stone wall, planting a new bed of shrubs and trees to shield the play area from the surrounding houses, and making some mounds from topsoil for older children to ride their mountain bikes over."

It's a BIG task, and this is where YOU (yes, YOU!) come in! Why not come along and take part in the makeover - the more the merrier...EVERYBODY is welcome!

Work's already begun on the makeover site!

*Take the A644 towards Huddersfield, then at a large roundabout turn onto the A62 towards Huddersfield. Then turn off left onto the A629 St Andrews Road (signposted Sheffield), past the McAlpine Stadium. Keep on the A629 towards Sheffield, past the Tolson Museum on your right, past the Fenay Bridge Pub, there is a major fork in the road. Take the right hand fork past Morrisons.

*Drive along this road past a row of shops and take a left signposted to library just after you see the co-op on your right. This is Turnshaws Road.
*Take your first left after the library into Turnshaws Avenue. Follow this road along to the end and you reach a t-junction. Turn left and follow this road down the hill, you will be able to see the rec at the bottom of this hill on the right hand side.
