Helen's grandparents, relatives, Mrs Mackenzie

Helen Shay: "Mrs. Mackenzie's Dead"

Tell Us About Yourself:
Born in Leeds - Bramley - where a lot of my family worked for a textile mill. I became a solicitor and writer.

What's Your Story About?
About my roots and my (very) extended family. Focussing upon strange parlour games they played. It's also about mortality and enjoying life, even though one day it all passes away. It's probably also about loony people!

Why Did You Choose To Tell This Particular Story?
Because it's about a typical working-class Yorkshire family, and ways that are now disappearing. It's also about bonds within families in general, and how they enrich our lives.
