In
your biography it says you spent four years drinking and writing
bad poetry, that wasn't a job was it? You weren't getting paid for
drinking?
The rate was probably below the national average.
You also spent a week as a florist?
That particular phase of my career wasn't the longest I've ever
had. I think I achieved everything in the field in the space of
a week.
When did you or someone else decide you were funny?
I got sent a letter from the Government when I was 11.
You're in Bradford on July 2nd for the Big Baa-Haa, what's that
all about?
I don't have any idea, I haven't done it yet. I came to Bradford
in April last year, so I've got lots of new gear. I'm still putting
everything together to shore up this new show, but I'm really looking
forward to it.
There's a good line-up with you, John Hegley and Shazia Mirza. John
Hegley is similar to yourself, you in your biography are described
as being a miserablist...
Some people have told me that I'm grumpy, it's not something
that I'm aware of. It's not like I walk around poking children in
the eye...not very small ones anyway.
Black Books is presumably no more, are we going to see any more?
I'm going to do something else. I'm working on another television
programme at the moment, but I can't really say anymore about it.
You have a role alongside Steve Coogan, Steven Fry and Rob Brydon
- is that a new movie?
That's coming out in late Summer or early Autumn, it's in post-production,
they're probably erasing my bit, but it's out quite shortly.
You don't do many interviews do you?
I've done hundreds! I think people only have a limted amount
to say about themselves, but over the years I've done hundreds.
But you don't do many these days?
I know, there's no point. People are on television, but what are
they talking about? It's not my idea of a good time.
Dylan Moran, Shazia Mirza and John Hegley will
appear at the Big Baa-Haa at the Alhambra Theatre as part of this
year's Bradford Festival on Saturday July 2nd.
Martin Kelner can be heard on Friday and Saturday between 10pm -
1am on BBC Radio Leeds.
