More info:
As well as over-wintering wildfowl, particularly wigeon, and many other
water birds there are ground nesting and woodland birds. There has been
much recent success with tree sparrows and insect life is more than plentiful
- butterflies, moths, damsel and dragon flies abound. Fauna include foxes,
shrews, amphibians, stoats, weasels, voles, rabbits, hares and roe deer.
More information is available in the Waterton Countryside Discovery Centre
and the park is adjacent to where Charles Waterton (after whom the Centre
was named) established the country, if not the world's, first nature reserve.
