Fair
Trade Ackworth just outside Wakefield have been organising catwalk
fashion shows rivalling the Birmingham's NEC Clothes Show for the
past few years. This year's event promises to be as big and bright
as the rest.
Ackworth
Fair Trade Clothes Show is due to take place on Friday 11th April
at 7.45pm. All clothes are fairly traded which means they are usually
hand-made by small companies or individuals at home rather than in
sweatshops or big factories.
Parading
down the catwalk
Many products
are from Traidcraft which has helped small comunities for the last
24 years sell their products abroad for fair prices.
This has helped poor communities to work their way out of poverty.
A small
amount of money can make a real difference to the lives of those
living on just a few pence a day. From having a guarenteed price
for their products communities have been able to improve their health
care, housing and education and make safer water supplies.

The
fashion show is organised by Fair Trade Ackworth, a shop run by
Judith and John Wadsworth and supported by Churches Together in
Ackworth. Tickets cost 50 pence including refreshments. They can
be bought from the shop which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday afternoons from 2-5pm and on Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm.
