The
AIM Series (Artificial, Indoor and Mountain) is the national point
series for the British Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Championships.
Now, it is coming to schools in the Calderdale and Wakefield districts.
AIM
is taking to the road in the hope of encouraging younger people
to take up alternative sports.
The
artificial dry and indoor slopes at Castleford and Halifax are said
to be amongst the finest in the country and the AIM Series campervan
will be visiting the two West Yorkshire towns in June.
Professional
snowboarders and skiers, many British champions, will take over
PE lessons for a day, promoting these exciting, and possibly even
extreme, outdoor sports to the pupils.

snowboarders and skiers have been visiting schools across the
country |
With
the help of video shows, Question and Answer sessions, equipment
displays and some hands-on experience the pros are hoping to give
pupils an incentive to try a new sport and get more active outside
school hours.
Students
who then feel the urge to try these sports out for themselves will
have the opportunity to do so in the autumn where 200 free lessons
are up for grabs at both West Yorkshire venues.
Meanwhile,
the professionals will be competing in Halifax for the Big Air Championships
and Board-Ski Test Session on September 27th and 28th while the
Indoor Big Air Championships will take place in Castleford on October
18th.
The
series culminates in the British Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships
which take place in Les Deux Alpes in France in March 2004.
