A heartening defeat for Brighouse!

By site user Tony Brown
On a very heavy pitch Brighouse started this match very confidently but a series of long defence splitting balls brought victory to Heckmondwike.

Heckmondwike 6 - 1 Brighouse
Huddersfield League U12s Division 1

On a very heavy pitch Brighouse started this match very confidently and indeed dominated it for about the first quarter of an hour with relentless pressure exemplified by the tenacity of Jordan Naylor and Ben Barraclough.

Heckmondwike then went in front following a controversial offside decision in almost their first real attack on the Brighouse goal.

Brighouse went further behind shortly after to a quality strike by Jack Rodgerson, a player with lightning pace and skill.

Brighouse continued to show great character and determination exemplified by Brighouse's equally outstanding and highly skilful Tom Ellis.  They got their rewards just on half time with a goal from the in form Evan-George Edwards to make it 2-1.

Brighouse made some changes at half time, replacing Dominic Cronshaw and Tom Denham following their highly committed and clearly improving contribution to the team.

Heckmondwike scored again in the first minute of the second half through Blake Morde. Brighouse did not let their heads drop - Jordan Naylor, Joe Greenwood, Ben Grech and Ben Barraclough worked tirelessly but another goal from Jack Rodgerson, an own goal and a final goal from Tom Haige changed the scoreline significantly in the last 10 minutes.

Heckmondwike's players delivered a number of long defence splitting balls that ultimately made the difference.  Brighouse may have lost this game but their performance, commitment and improving willingness to utilise their technical skills in matches was heartening for the manager and the parents watching.

Man of the Match

Brighouse: Even-George Edwards/Tom Ellis (totally committed)
