Football
Greetland suffered a heavy loss

Greetland 1 - 5 Liversedge

By site user Nigel Whitworth
Greetland Goldstars suffered their biggest defeat since entering league football seven years ago.

Huddersfield and District Junior Football League Under-17

They were often second-best to a lively Liversedge team who showed some superb finishing to secure a flattering victory.

The visitors got a dream start when a mix-up in the home defence resulted in an own goal. Goldstars struggled to adapt to the pace of the game and went 2-0 down to a fine strike before the break.

The second half gave Goldstars hope because immediately they pulled a goal back when Danny Willis got on the end of a good move and made no mistake from a few yards out.

Goldstars now stepped up a gear and believed they could get something from the game but the match was decided a few minutes later by the referee who gave Liversedge a penalty for an innocuous challenge which surprised even the visitors. That was despatched for a 3-1 lead and Liversedge made sure there was no way back for Greetland.

Although the home side had a few half-chances through the game their finishing was second best to Liversedge who scored two further fine goals for a convincing, if rather flattering, win.

Man of the Match: Richard Hine, runner-up Danny Willis
