In the first series of Born Survivors, viewers watched Kizzy Neal's transformation from a carefree teenager to, with her family's help, a responsible single mum at 14. One year on the cameras return to follow Kizzy's extraordinary progress, learning how she's become a full-blown mother to son Kaylib while taking her own first steps towards independence.
Kizzy says she is now a lot more confident with Kaylib than she was when he was first born: "I didn't know what to do with him. I didn't know how to change his nappy. I'd never held a baby. Now he's big and cuddly, and I'm not scared of him any more."
This confidence is due in part to the support she's received from her family, and boyfriend Michael, who she's been with since just after Kaylib was born. "Michael's always there for Kaylib," she says. "He is always very supportive. He would do anything for Kaylib - you can tell he loves him."
Kizzy recognises the importance of continuing her studies. "Your education's the start of your life. It gets you onto your qualifications, your qualifications get you your job, your job gets you your money, your house, your family."
Juggling motherhood, college and work is tough for a 16-year-old but then Kizzy's not your average teenager, and is working hard to throw off any negative labels attached to her. "Sociologists stereotype single mums as not working, not providing for the family themselves," she says. "I'm not like that. I go to college full-time and I do two night classes as well, and I have a job at the weekend. And I'm a mum."
