Time Period

The Big Freeze

c. 2 Million Years Ago

The ‘rock teeth’ of a glacier and the movement of the ice sheets are visible here at Killard Point.

The scraping and scouring is visible in these rocks which map the trajectory of the ice across the rocky surface.

Glaciers widened and shaped valleys all over Northern Ireland and broad U-shaped valleys can be seen in places such as Glenariff in County Antrim, and especially in the Mourne Mountains themselves which were crafted and sculpted by the ice sheets.
