Northern Ireland’s geological past is responsible for all the landmarks we are familiar with today.
Our breathtaking coastlines, mountains, loughs, rivers and inland landscapes are a product of the unique physical journey through time and space which has seen them drowned by tropical seas, roasted by deserts, covered by volcanic lava, and shrouded in ice.
In this programme, presenter William Crawley is joined by experts Peter Woodman and Emily Murray to trace the unique journey the very ground beneath our feet travelled over the course of millions of years.
They visit the key locations where the rocks hold the clues to our landscape's evolution over a vast expanse of time. Aided by stunning photography and 3D computer generated effects, this unique chapter in our history is brought vividly to life.
Repeated on BBC2 NI Wednesday 2 April at 7.00pm and again on BBC2 NI Sunday 6 April at 5.05pm
Presenter Caroline Nolan and a team of experts travel from Donegal to Donaghadee to trace our geological journey from 420 million years ago up to the edge of the first ice age. They examine the remains of an ancient ocean, the white reminder of our days below a warm sea and the forgotten coal fields of our tropical past.
