Disclosure make the kind of club music that sounds as effective in your headphones as it does on the dance floor. That is to say, tonights hottest record control is class for all occasions. The future sounds so bright. LISTEN
Whilst its early days for this band Pure Love, Their energy and commitment of Frank Carter and Jim Carroll will be familiar to all who have had experience with their previous musical ventures.
All of this of course rests on the quality of tunes and so far we're 2 for 2.
A bunch of continents and countries have all taken part in a two week scavenger hunt for clues that ultimately led UK fans to Radio 1 with a USB key with the brand new Linkin Park song. A worldwide exclusive made better by the appearance of the recon team and Mike Shinoda on the phone. Both the song and the exercise are classic Linkin Park. Always thinking outside of the box.
Do you believe in fate? Because Plan B is literally relying on a mix of fate and hard graft to see through his artistic commitments right now. Taking on two movies, a new album and preparing for live shows is a three to five year plan for most. However Plan B has been at this body of work for less than a year and has less than a month to get it all wrapped up. So good vibes for Plan B with tonight's Hottest Record 'Lost My Way'.
Super funky. Super funky enough for Prince to want to hang out and jam, Lianne La Havas more than delivers with tonight's Hottest Record, Is Your Love Big Enough? Tracing the journey from the lows to the highs in life in 3 minutes and 18 seconds, this is bone fide Hottest Record business.
Bombay Bicycle Club make good on album session leftover in 'Beg' and we respond with the traditional Hottest Record tag. Two things about this record. 1) You can understand why it didn't make the album. Not because of a lack of quality but because it stands alone. Which leads me to point 2) that it shines a bright light on their future and what it may sound like. Which is exciting.
Sigur Ros have been streaming their new album Valtari for 24 hours going from time zone to time zone, which we think is a pretty cool idea. But only if your music is worth the effort. By the sounds of it this album was just that... a lot of effort but absolutely worth it.
YAY! sayer. Sorry. Yeasayer have returned with new music that marries the old and the new distribution techniques. Select hard copies sent out to die-hard fans predictably found their way online within milliseconds of delivery meaning tonight's Hottest Record is a smidgeon behind the 8 ball. But trust your resident new music team to deliver big with the only interview in existence right now. Listen again to both. Don't be a naysayer. Hooraysayer.
When they're not headlining festivals and selling our enormo parks, Swedish House Mafia also run their own individual empires very successfully. Tonight's Hottest Record finds Steve Angello and two of his erstwhile Size Records artists AN21 and Max Vangeli delivering a sharp message to the H8RS.
A little something special that Ben Howard recorded for Thursday nights V. Greg James. It feels special enough to start the week as a Hottest Record. Ben Howard freewheeling his way through Sub Focus' Out The Blue with ease. My only critique, I wish it was a little bit slower. Splitting hairs much?
TEED's debut album Trouble will come out on June 11th and is preceded by this, tonight's Hottest Record and bone fide "dance floor banger" American Dream Part II. Listen again to Thursday night's show for an interview with Orlando from Bogota.
Any doubts that may have existed around Plan B's return quickly evaporated last night for most people as he debuted tonight's Hottest Record on BBC2's Later... Lost My Way is Strickland Banks setting fire to the booth. Honestly, the future knows no bounds.
Expect an honest and very personal album from Passion Pit this time around. Tonight's Hottest Record 'Take A Walk' is just one style of song on what is also supposed to be a very "diverse and beautiful" sounding record.
One of music's best, James Ford has been dedicating himself to all things SMD with its other half Jas Shaw. And tonights Hottest Record certainly benefits from this dedication. Sounding familiar but unquestionably modern, 'Your Love Ain't Fair' is one of the clubs finest compositions this year.
Three songs, three hottest records so far for the Neighbourhood and all for good reason. 'Wires' shows an accelerating rap influence that helped form a foundation for the band but is only now starting to show it's face. Once again, it's a bright future on the horizon.
Mercury Music Prize nominated band The Invisible are back with a "very emotional" new album. Tonight's Hottest Record, Wings, preempts it's release with a more syncopated grove than we are used to, however it doesn't take long for the human heart to show itself both in groove and on sleeve. Stunning.
