More Newsjackery

Post categories:

Piers Beckley | 10:16 UK time, Wednesday, 17 June 2009

Newsjack is now open for business, accepting comedy sketches and jokes for your aural entertainment.

To get you in the mood for funny, we've got a new interview with Jocelyn Jee Esien and Gareth Edwards talking specifically about writing sketch comedy, and writing for Newsjack. Though it was known as 7 on 7 when we did the interview. We thrive on confusion here.

You might also be interested in reading our earlier interview with Sanjeev Kohli and Gareth Edwards, or checking out the recent writeup of a 7 on 7 masterclass with David Mitchell.

Newsjack masterclass. Whatevs.

If you missed the pilot, the first episode of the series goes out tomorrow at 11pm. Find out more dates and times and use iPlayer to catchup from the Newsjack programme page.

Deadlines for sketches are noon on Mondays.

Good luck!

Is there a limit on the number of sketches, vox pops etc we can send? I know previously it was 3 sketches, 10 vox pops but that was for different 'competitions'. Thanks

The limit is three sketches a week, and 15 one-liners.

    Details at the Newsjack site.

This might sound a bit naive: i am currently a 3rd year student of philosophy/psychology who is interested in becoming a writer - do you think i stand a chance if entering my ideas without ever taking a course/training in writing?

The only requirement to be a writer is to complete what you start, and send it off to the relevant people.

You've got every chance of success in the world, as long as you do those two things.

It's all about the work. Nothing else.

    Good luck!

I hope that psychology students/graduates who haven't been on any writing courses stand a chance because I'm one too!

    @ Piers

    Thanks for the reply.

I know what you mean Piers - that has happened to me many times: i start but don't complete

Dear Piers, Would it be possible to post a script from 'Newsjack' on this site, for those of us unable to access the listen again feature?

Is Newsjack still accepting submissions? There is no auto acknowledgments anymore and no list of the successful submitters.

the_germinator: In order to post a script we need to get permission from the writers as well as the producer - and there are just too many writers in each programme (it being a sketch show) to make it feasible. Sorry.

MaldwynP: Yes, they're still accepting submissions. You can alsofind the list of credits for each programme at the BBC Programmes site for Newsjack - here's the latest episode credits at the time of writing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lk9c8, you should be able to find the rest from there.

I was just confused as no one had been taken to hospital after reading my side cracking one-liners.
P.S. I think Miles is a great choice as the front man, although his mother and I wanted him to be a doctor.
