Single Drama - Five Minutes of Heaven

Post categories:

For those that bemoan the lack of single drama from the BBC, it's worth flagging up Five Minutes of Heaven, an award-winning drama about reconciliation in Northern Ireland based on real events. It airs at 9pm this coming Sunday on BBC Two. Be aware that some listings mags may tell you it's on Saturday, but that isn't right!

It's written by Guy Hibbert - and you can also read an interview with Guy about writing the film on the Writers' Guild of Great Britain website.

    Brilliant stuff.

I dream of a time when the BBC makes work of this quality on a weekly basis.

And that costs money, so I wouldn't expect too many more one off dramas like this.

I recall a series of six new BBC (single) dramas being aired in the mid 90s and the acting was diabolical mostly, I mean sub soap standard - but this meant they were cheap to produce.

Even so, they can't be as cost effective as serials and I think that's why they went out of fashion.
