Writers Academy 9
Where are they now?
The Writers Academy has been going for four years now. 32 writers have done the course, and I thought it might be useful to look at what's happened to them....
Academy writers have joined the core writing teams of all four shows... five at Casualty (including one, Mark Catley, who's now the Lead Writer), six at Holby, two at EastEnders and one at Doctors
28 out of the 32 are in pretty much constant work for the department.
One has a new series in development for BBC 3
One is developping an internet drama for the BBC.
One wrote last week's episode of Shameless
Several have kept up theatre and radio writing careers alongside their work for us.

The Writers Academy is a huge success story for all concerned. Where can I find further information? Sorry I'm not 'four years up to speed' on this!

What happened to the four people? Did they decide it wasn't for them? Did they go on to other things? And what about the 28? Do they have to hustle for work or do they just sit there and it comes in?

Jules jay, I think you've answered your own question.

Bruce, not sure which question you mean but if it's the first one, they could have gone onto other things because they didn't get any work. I wanted to know if it's possible to fail the academy.

I think it's a bit meanspirited highlighting that four people effectively failed the academy. It's like the Writersroom is really rubbing their faces in the fact that the other 28 who got in actually achieved something. Shame on the Writersroom!

@ AspieBoy
Hold your horses AspieBoy! - I didn't say they'd failed. I said they weren't writing for us.
@ Jules jay
Yes, you have answered your own question. It's a combination of all those answers, plus of course some aren't recommissioned by shows (as with any other freelance writer). Let's not use the 'F' word here.

For the viewer and fortune teller
You will always find good fortune in the mountains. The clouds, the fog, the sunshine the hail, sleet and snow always tells its own tale.
You need no weather forecast no expert of cultural past for when you look at the mountain it tells its sleepy tale. Of rain and cloud gathers her pace of sunder and peace the people who live there have learnt it all. From the time of a good fortune will always be found in the mountain of time and wisdom.

I was going to say that!

Right, this is starting to get out of hand, so I'm going to have to be a little harsher than previous.
If you post your creative efforts - short stories, poetry, whatever - in the comments on this blog, they will be deleted.
So please don't. Thanks.
