Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe

Post categories:

Piers Beckley | 11:42 UK time, Thursday, 4 December 2008

Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe is all about telly. It's both very funny and very educational.

The last episode was all about writing, and you can watch it on iplayer for the next five days. Unlike most episodes, it's very much a straight Q&A with writers Tony Jordan, Russell T Davies, Sam Bain & Jesse Armstrong, Paul Abbott, and Graham Linehan.

Or watch it on your old-fashioned tellybox. Repeats are on Friday 5 December at 11:45pm or Sunday 7 December at 11:30pm, both on BBC4.

i've watched this on iplayer and i have to say its grreat. Really educational.
Not sure about Russell's version of dialogue explanation - the opposite of talking isn't listening, its waiting. That we're all waiting to say what we want to say. That dialogue is like two monologues clashing.
I have to say i think people do listen even if they only pick up on one thing. I think people pick up stuff from tv in the way they speak. So i think some people pick up the bad dialogue and use it when they speak. I think i have when i speak sometimes.

Would it be possible to have a transcript of this programme on the Writers' Room website? It was v v interesting and useful and I'd like to point my scriptwriting students to it!
    Thanks!
