It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine...)
New scripts! Yay!
Survivors episode 1, and Caligari are now available for download in the script archive.
You can also read interviews with Adrian Hodges and Gaby Chiappe to find out more about Survivors, while Sue Roberts and Amanda Dalton talk about Caligari.
And talking about scripts, Warner Bros have put the script for The Dark Knight online.
All well worth a read.

I loved the first series of Survivors in the 70's but I will hold back my judgement on this series as it is only the first episode of six and you cannot cover all aspects of the huge virus affected world in the first episode. There are most certainly other survivors, notably those who have instigated the release of the virus who were sealed underground to avoid catching it. Has made me think a lot and suggested to my husband at breakfast the procuring packets of seeds would be a good thing to do if you were a survivor.
Would have been nice to see unknown actors taking leading parts so that you were not reminded of other series such as Bone crushers etc.

Like walking in to a goldmine! It's interesting comparing the Survivors script to the shoot. Auntie Beeb really is producing some great drama at the moment.

In this politically correct and, sadly, ageist version of the original, I found myself getting mildly excited when two of the intrepid band discovered a poor old geezer trying to defend what was left of his shop. At last, thought I, someone over forty (eighty would be nearer the mark actually), but no sooner had he opened his mouth when he was knocked on the head.
I had to laugh...

I'm sure Julie Graham, (er, one, if not the lead character ) will be thrilled to know that some viewers think she is under forty (go check) - She is over a decade older than Carolyn Seymour the original Abby Grant, with the other lead from the original, Ian McCulloch, under forty as well - The actor who played her husband may have been the 'right' side of 40, as with the Outdoor Pursuits instructor, who we may see again - We have seen only about a dozen and a half survivors in total so far, and have been told in the first episode that certain groups would be more vulnerable (i.e young, ill, and presumably the elderly). How old is the scientist? Yes, there are several non-white characters, but this is modern Britain, and it is possible there is a reason, to be revealed, for this - If not, what does it matter? This is not the white middle class in crisis if -you- take- away Waitrose 70's version - However, having said that, I remember watching the orginal (yes, I'm over forty) and finding it more logical in its characterisation and more exciting in structure - Why Abby returned to the supermarket just didn't seem logical, nor the 'mexican stand off' - Look a 'bad' black guy in the backround! l

She's looking good, but I take your point. Nevertheless, the casting feels terribly contrived and lacking conviction. As to certain groups being more vulnerable, the decline in our immune system really kicks in over the age of 60 and, in any event, some of the survivors were naturally immune and didn't contract the disease at all. Nit picking aside, must agree in the lack of logic in the writing and the sheer volume of coincidences...
So much material, such a great backdrop and so little imagination. I was simply really really looking forward to this... No more said...

Cheers Piers
I found myself more into the second episode than the first, which I think is a very healthy sign. Once the groundwork had been laid the series could get on with showing us how people not that different to us might cope in a world turned upside down.
Loads of possibilities-and the teaser at the end of the first ep (i'm avoiding spoilers like crazy) suggests that it shouldn't turn into arguments over allotments and wood burning furnaces.
