Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers
A couple of people have reported problems with their Sharps applications - the online application form is rejecting their application without saying why.
I've had a quick check, and basically the back-end software seems to be going all nanny-state if you've used a rude word in your application. And then not telling anyone about it.
If you're having trouble, check to see if you've used any naughty words on the application form - if you have, then taking them out should fix the problem.

What's a rude word?

Sorry, Piers, I asked a question about having to declare age on the form yet there was no response and my question was deleted. Why?

you asked on this blog kroggy? and it was deleted?!!!

MarkoUK: Being a gentleman, I obviously don't know any rude words.
Juggles - it's on an older Sharps post. Still there.

Kroggy: We need to ask for your age to make sure all applicants are over 18, as the eight final writers will attend a week-long residential course.###
Then all that is necessary, is to ask....'are you over 18?'
Not... 'put your birthdate'

I emailed writersroom but I just got an automated response so far.
I completed the form and clicked to send an e-mail days ago but never received it which apparently I need to send with my script.
I have the ref number and can put all my contact details on it.
Will that be enough or do I need to sign up again.

yea the script has to be sent by post along with the print out of the email

I just finished my entry last night. Now I don't know whether to send it, or just cut out the middle man and pop it straight in the bin.

@ aspie - Shred it if it has your name and address on it. Think, theft ID - worse than plagiarism.

Piers,
How do we know if our script has been safely received - will we get an acknowledgement?

We'll be emailing everyone whose script we receive this week a confirmation that it's arrived safely.
If you've posted your script already and haven't heard back by Thursday, drop us a line at writersroom@bbc.co.uk so we can check it's got here safely.

they ask you for your birthdate to see if you are over eighteen years of age...but don't fool yourself if you think for one moment they are not after the young talent, max 30yrs. old.

@RR
Interesting you should say that but according to the FOI act, in 2005 the average age of a BBC employee was 38 and the average of any new recruit was 31 - it's a young organisation.
@Piers
Thanks for the info about acknowledgement of receipt - but if you e-mail the writersroom all you get is an automated response.

yea and it says they can't answer all the emails!!

Hi Piers.
I hope you'll be able to answer my question. I just finished my script and have had the email confirmation but my printer is playing me up. The ink is not printing out clearly, making the script pages unprofessional looking.
Would it be OK for someone to print out my entry and post it to you on my behalf? I'm worried that as the closing date is looming, time is against me.
Thanks in advance.

bhercules: If you email writersroom@bbc.co.uk and let me know your name and/or the name of your script I'll check through the records to see whether we received the application form. If you're worried about time and want to get your script in the post right away, fill in the application form again - if it works, just print out the new version, and we'll ignore the first. If it doesn't, let me know.
Roryright: Sometimes we run schemes looking for young talent, but this isn't one of them. Sharps is absolutely open to anyone of any age. (OK, not quite any - you have to be over 18 on the 28 July. But other than that.)
Kroggy/Juggles: Harsh taskmasters! We're going through the scripts we've received so far, and the email acknowledgements should be with you by lunchtime tomorrow.

Mystic21: Yes, that'll be fine. Please make sure they also print and attach your confirmation email to the script

You've convinced me that even us oldies are in with a chance. I'm not happy, that was the excuse I was going to use. I'll have to think of another. Maybe the well known BBC bias against Scots.

I still haven't received an email acknowledgement does this mean I missed the deadline?

Just to let you know that I heard from a very famous scriptwriter in hollywood . He told that he never won any competition he entered and he entered quite a few. Now he is writing with his partner on some of the top grossing films in Hollywood. Here are a few of them: Zorro, Pirates of the Caribbean.
So if you are not successful don't give up!
