At the Sharps end
I'm delighted to announce that writer Jack Thorne will be joining the selection panel for Sharps. Jack was a core writer on the first two series of Skins for Channel 4 and has also written for Shameless, as well penning fantastic original drama for BBC radio and the theatre. Jack has always been a passionate advocate for new writers and new voices. Read an interview with him here.
The submissions for Sharps are pouring in. We're already sifting the scripts already received - and are already reading some great scripts from writers we didn't know about. Don't forget, the deadline is next Monday!

I have posted off my entry. Can someone just reassure me that the email application form is the same as the online application form and I don't have to include both? They're one and the same thing, aren't they?! If not, then I've just shot myself in the foot and beg for mercy...

Dear galacticlooloo, the email/online form is as one. The online form you filled in was emailed back to you. You printed it off and sent it with your script. All is well.

Dear notStoppard - thank you sooo much for letting me know that I haven't boobed.
Good luck with your script!

You're welcome, Galacticlooloo. I only registered on this site - and just for the weekend only - to answer your plaintive cry, so good luck to you. (I'm not sending a script but I do know how it works!)
And to everyone else - good luck. Even if members are unsuccessful, I believe these open submissions are good practice. They keep writing muscles flexed, impose deadlines, call for rigorous discipline in terms of organising time and rewriting, and ideally, help you to see that the only real competition you have is with yourself, to be a better writer. That's why I don't enter them - it takes all my energy trying to believe in me! And I often get uncomfortable seeing what happens to people when in competition mode. The comments on ageism may be seen as a little negative and concern externals, not what really matters. If your writing is good enough, if you have something to say that others connect with, if you show potential in the medium in which you're writing, then you will gain work - from someone, somewhere.
So, I'm glad to have briefly dipped in to BBC writersroom for a day. Thanks for reading.

Juggles: We'll know for sure once we've finished counting, and one of us will stick up a blog post as soon as we know for sure but the short answer is:
Lots.

I was one of those last minute finishers who posted their script on Friday. It went first class so hopefully will be with the writersroom by now.
Will you be sending out email confirmations of those received this week (but postmarked by 14th of course!)? Appreciate you're going to have your hands full doing the 10 page sift but it would be reassuring to know that my script has arrived safely.
Thanks

Hi there, I am also one of the last ones to post i think, i posted first thing friday morning, after being up all night, I only saw the compitition on Monday.
Hope that you can send us all an email, even if it is just to let us down and say it arrived late.
Thanks for your time, i enjoyed working towards the deadline.

Well, having just re-read my effort for the first time since I posted in on Saturday morning (special delivery), I can only say I wished I hadn't stayed up half the night to finish, followed by stumbling bleary-eyed to the local post office (yes, we actually have one!) to join the queue of early risers. Joy joy.
Like one or two other entrants I only heard about Sharps End too close to the deadline, so tried to adapt something I'd already done in order to meet it. Mistake.
However, at least I did see the thing through to the bitter end...
Anyway, good luck all you scribes.
P.S. And, yes, I do think it would be good to have the opportunity of eyeballing winning entries...

Dawn, I too sent mine late and got an e-mail 20th to say I had registered but a postal entry had not been recieved. Horror. So I contacted writersroom; I had originally registered with a mispelt e-mail address and the e-mail to say it had been recieved had gone there. I had re-registered when didn't get anything back, which was the e-mail address it appeared that hadn't sent an entry. So if there was a chance you could have, in your enthusiasm to register for Sharps, not given your correct address this could be why. Good luck.

Hi there - I probably haven't been successful since I didn't hear from writersroom/sharps on friday but I was wondering if the finalists have been decided. Where can I find out?
Peter
