A little light relief?

Post categories:

Robin Lustig | 12:16 UK time, Thursday, 12 March 2009

You may feel like a little light relief. If so, I hope you'll enjoy this item about why Georgia has run into trouble with the organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Would you see anything wrong with a song called "We Don't Wanna Put In"? (Clue: The contest is being staged in Moscow this year, and the name of the Russian prime minister is ... ?)

UPDATE: Since this item was broadcast, Georgia has announced that it is withdrawing from this year's contest.

(broadcast on The World Tonight, BBC Radio 4, 10 March 2009)

    Robin,

Personaly I think the lyrics of the song are terrible- at least the English translation. Does it refer to Vladimir Putin? Probably yes. Are the choice of the song and the subsequent decision to withdraw form the contest childish behaviour? Definitely yes.

Georgia is once again playing the 'We are the victims' card. Thanks to Saakashvili's military adventure last year, now Georgia has completely lost credibility on the international stage. Trying to make a point with a stupid song is not going to help that.

In the words of the Taxi Song, I'm afraid they're just a little late, we've got the Empire State.

Anyway, here's what it's like when it's done by real professionals; "Puttin' on the Ritz."

It may be over 60 years old and done in part with smoke an mirrors, or is it(?) as you'll see if you watch it but Vlad prince of darkness's footwork has nothing on one of the greatest of all song and dance men ever.

You know what one of BBC's big problems is Mr. Ludwig? When its reporters don't know something, they make things up. Or they interject their own opinions. And those opinions are usually biased based on the prevailing BBC culture and the kinds of people BBC attracts and hires. And they state their opinions as though they were facts.

Take for example this fool reporter, I think his name is Frank Gardner who appeared on BBC TV World News on PBS the other night. He was reporting from Afghanistan or Pakistan about prisoners let go from GITMO. Now of around 500 released, about 61 have gone back to the battlefield to fight another day. One in particular is an expert bomb maker and honcho in the Taleban or al Qaeda (is there a difference?) Apparently a lot of Brit soldiers are getting killed by his handiwork and evidently BBC doesn't like it. But who did Gardner blame it on? The US government for having released him or having had GITMO in the first place. He said it was the result of the US's failed policy at GITMO. Actually the release of these terrorists was the result of political pressure applied by many in Europe in general, in Britain in particular, and in some part as the result of BBC's incessant and sharp criticism which only incited more pressure. So when this guy is through killing Brits on the Battlefield in Afghanistan and there's no more jihad to be waged there, perhaps he will set his sights a couple of thousand miles Northwest....towards Britain itself. Now that would be poetic justice.

And you know what another problem BBC has Mr. Ludwig? It refuses to face the fact that it has any problems...which means it will never solve them.

deceiliar, if you are talking about jackturk and those of his mindset (including yourself) I wholeheartedly agree. But if you are referring to me, my only problems are strictly related to how I will finance my retirement in a life of ease and luxury and the solution is far closer for me than for a lot of other people, especially since so many others have moved in the wrong direction in recent months and years. BTW, take a long hard look in the mirror. You may not like what you see....if it doesn't crack on you first :-)

Marcus, you need a better map or possibly Sat Nav; you conistently fail to find the 'bigger picture'.

A few hints, it's the sort of place where you can see that failed policies like GITMO form the best recruitment campaign for terrorist organisations. It's also the kind of place where one can see that personal problems stem not just from a lack of money or personal effects, but a lack of open mindedness, fairness of thinking and an overdose of arrogance.

I'm talking in particular about that chip that needs to be surgically removed from your shoulder. Recognising the chip's existence is the beginning . . .
