This topic was discussed on World Cup Have Your Say on 6 July 2010. Listen to the programme.

Fans from countries around the world may remember the mid-1990s Fantasy Football phenomenon.

Groups of people set up mini leagues, and selected the players they thought would win most points throughout a season by scoring the most goals, keeping clean sheets and so on. Many newspapers still run similar competitions.

So we thought we'd give it a go on World Cup Have Your Say. We asked four pundits representing Africa, the Americas, Europe and Asia/Oceania, to select a team using any World Cup player from their region that they think would win out against the others.

Our pundits' XI:

Kawashma (Japan)
Lahm (Germany)
Da Silva (Portugal)
Juan (Brazil)
Belhadj (Algeria)
Muller (Germany)
Sneijder (Netherlands)
Schweinsteiger (Germany)
Annan (Ghana)
Villa (Spain)
Forlan (Uruguay)

But we'd also like your picks. Would a team featuring Schweinsteiger, Sneijder and Villa beat a side starring Kaka, Suarez and Messi? What about the best 11 who represented Africa at the World Cup - how many Ghanaians would you put in?

And what about overall? Fifa will eventually select their team of the tournament - but who would be your picks?

In a world cup dominated by teamwork and organisation instead of stars, it's hard to choose individual players.

    Stekelenburg (HOL)
    Lahm (GER)
Morel (PAR) - or Ramos (SPA) for Europe
DiMichelis (ARG) - or Puyol (SPA) for Europe
Lucio (BRA) - or Pique (SPA) for Europe
Mascherano (ARG) - or De Jong (HOL) for Europe
    Scweinsteiger (GER)
    Mueller (GER)
    Schneider (HOL)
    Villa (SPA)
Hesk ... I mean Suarez (URU) - or Klose (GER) for Europe

well i dont think that this world cup is not dominated by stars. the south american teams dropped out like 4 years ago but they still managed to go far. Sneijder,Schweinsteiger,Robben,Lahm,Klose,Van Persie,Van der Vaart,Van Bommel,Villa,Xavi,Iniesta are still there! so u cant say this World Cup has no stars.

    Team Europe definately has: Casillas,Lahm,Mertesacker.Puyol,Ramos,Schweinsteiger,Sneijder,Robben,Muller,Klose,Villa

Anybody noticed that players from Bayern Munich and Inter Mailand dominated this World Cup, you can find them in Holland and German national team.

  • Comment number 7.

The players who scored the most goals are the best players.
