On Tuesday we have the two final games in the second round of the 2010 World Cup.

The opening clash in Pretoria sees two of the outsiders in the competition in Paraguay and Japan, while the second match sees pre-tournament favourites Spain take on Portugal, who are developing a reputation for having one of the best defences in the tournament.

Monday's matches feature the Netherlands against Slovakia and Brazil versus Chile.

On the face of it it looks like the Netherlands and Brazil going through, but I don't anticipate an easy time for the favourites in either of these games.

World champions Italy need to bounce back from their shock 1-1 draw with New Zealand in Group F with a win against Slovakia to ensure they qualify for the second round.

A draw for the Italians could see New Zealand produce one of the great World Cup shocks if they can beat Paraguay and eliminate the 2006 winners.

In Group E Japan take on Denmark in Rustenburg with both sides on three points after each team beat Cameroon and lost to the Netherlands. The Japanese have a superior goal difference, so only need a draw, but the Danes will be hoping Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner can shake off his groin injury and hit the net.

The Dutch, who are already assured of qualification, only need a point against Cameroon to secure top spot in the group.

D-Day for England as Fabio Capello's stuttering side face Group C leaders Slovenia in Port Elizabeth probably needing a win to reach the knock-out stages. With England's World Cup campaign yet to get off the ground, can Capello's team avoid an ignominous early exit in the group stages, a fate the nation last suffered in 1958?

In the other Group C game the United States face Algeria, with both teams still in with a chance of qualifying for the last 16.

Group D is equally finely balanced with all four teams capable of going through. Australia need a win against Serbia as do Ghana, who face Germany.

Not content with three World Cup games a day? Then Tuesday brings us four matches to feast on with Groups A and B to be decided.

In Group A, a draw between Uruguay and Mexico, who each have four points, could dump a horribly disunited France side and hosts South Africa out of the tournament.

Group B leaders Argentina face Greece, while South Korea take on Nigeria.

England need to make changes to advance

I've been watching England matches since 1972, and I'm struggling to remember a performance that was more disjointed or disappointing than the one we witnessed against Algeria in Cape Town on Friday night, as the match ended 0-0.

England coach Fabio Capello is now in the firing line for the first time since he took over from Steve McClaren. The team had a great World Cup qualifying campaign, so what went wrong against Algeria?

Click below to find out what I made of England's display and what I think they need to do to progress to the knockout stages.

Written off before a ball had been kicked Germany probably produced the performance of the opening group round of matches with their superb 4-0 demolition of Australia. Next up for Joachim Loew's talented young side is Serbia, who desperately need to get some points on the board after their 1-0 defeat by Ghana.

Slovenia and the United States then take centre stage before England resume their bid to qualify from Group C as Fabio Capello's side face Algeria. Can England secure their first win in South Africa?

England got their World Cup campaign off to a stuttering start against a 1-1 draw with the United States. But remember that in 1966 England drew 0-0 in their opening game of the World Cup, so it's not all doom and gloom. Here's my thoughts about Fabio Capello's performance in their first Group C game in South Africa.
