Fans gather at Luton Airport

claire_heald66.gifLUTON AIRPORT - Claire Heald writes:

The crowd outside the perimeter fence is well over 150, all wanting a peek at the plane, which British Airways have renamed 'Pride of the Nation'. They are laying on a very English final feast for the 60-odd passengers - a cream tea.
They have also decked out every seat with messages of support from England fans.
One face standing out of the crowd, is that of Tim Noakes. At 6ft 5ins, he is two inches shortter than Peter - but that's without the wig...
The ex-teacher has been traveling in Argentina, where he convinced the locals he was Peter Crouch - until they saw the England striker playing in last week's friendlies..

"I've been getting a bit of stick from friends in the pub and when i try and do that robot dance they find it particularly emusing, especially after a few beers..

Excitement has been growing all morning fans car stereos have been booming out Dad's Army type tunes - and even the official World Cup song by Embrace has got some airtime!

Camera cranes have risen up to get a good view. Jay Clarke, aged nine, is up on the roof of his mum's car to cheer England off though he fears "Brazil will do us".

It's the first time Emma Pentelaw and her family will have seen the England team. "We just wanted to come and show the team we're behind them!".

I hope England are not flying in one of those orange coloured planes.

I know it might look good on the FA's balance sheet but we need our boys there before Saturday!
