Lapland New Forest update
Back in November 2008, dozens of you got in touch with us about a Lapland-styled theme park which had just opened in Hampshire, Lapland New Forest. Many visitors were tempted by winter wonderland pictures of huskies running through snow-covered landscapes and promises of a nativity scene, Santa Claus and a Christmas market. But in reality this was far from the truth.
Now, Dorset Trading Standards understands that Victor Mears, the director of Lapland New Forest Ltd, will be closing the company down and appointing two partners at Grant Thornton UK LLP, to be joint liquidators.
Divisional trading standards manager Ivan Hancock said: "Once the liquidators have control of the company, customers will have the opportunity to lodge a claim against Lapland New Forest Limited."
Grant Thornton has advised us that it will be giving formal written notice (including a claims form) to all customers who booked tickets online (this is the majority of people who bought tickets). For those customers who didn't book online or who don't receive formal notice in the post, the proceedings will be advertised in two local newspapers with full contact details.
Grant Thornton hopes to issue its formal notice within two weeks but can't guarantee this.
Dorset Trading Standards will post all the relevant information on its website dorsetforyou.com. Customers can also contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 to get more information about their claim.
It's not clear how likely it is that claimants will be successful but Ivan Hancock also adds: "Trading Standards is continuing to fully investigate the matter and will take any appropriate legal action against individuals involved with the limited company."

The question I have posed to MP's and others is why anyone with such an appalling history and abysmal business plan ever managed to get the support of a bank to provide a facility to accept card payments. The company website was the major fantasy, consisting of 'borrowed' pictures and a disclaimer that disclaimed everything - even it's own failure to provide anything.
