The aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford and William Jessop, is the UK's nomination to become a World Heritage Site for 2008, reports BBC Local News - as well as an 11 mile stretch of waterway, according to canal blogger Andrew Denny. The aqueduct is a popular subject for local photographers and celebrated its 200th birthday in 2005.

Well done all those who supported the "Pontcysyllte Aqueduct for World Heritage" campaign. It may not be a "done deal" so it needs our continued support. Wish I could remember the number of times I've walked, and biked, across it after midnight, that's what came from keeping company with a girl from Froncysyllte. Happy days! Thanks again and keep it up folks, your support is still needed! Wil.
