Ponciau Banks park has received a £504, 000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for restoration and improvements. Among proposed developments are plans to renovate the bandstand and and install a "viewing amphitheatre" which would then be used for outdoor events. The ultimate aim is to restore the park "to its former splendour of the 1950s period". For further information see Wrexham Council's website.

It's really good news about Lottery Fund money being given to revamp Ponkey Banks. There's a definite and tangible movement to make the general environment a lot better for all ages of Rhos residents : the excellent Stiwt Theatre and its splendidly appointed and equipped function rooms, a BMX cycle track, a brand new primary school, CCTV to keep an eye on miscreants, both actual and potential. But let's remember that Rhos' improving lot has been supported by members of the community and continues to be by many unsung volunteers behind the scenes.

The restoration of the Ponkey Banks is one more small but very welcome step in Rhos' recovery to the caring and sociable community it was once famous for being.
