    I've been travelling the length and breadth of the country recently filming for the new series of Weatherman Walking. So far I've been to Newport, Pontypridd, Bala and Prestatyn where Mike Peters from the band The Alarm showed me around his local area.

    We've had a good dose of fine and warm weather and sunshine this month, but a trough of low pressure over the Atlantic is heading our way. This will bring a spell of rain reaching the south and south-west late tomorrow afternoon and then moving northwards during the evening and overnight.

    Porthmadog in Gwynedd was the warmest place in Wales yesterday with a high of 24.1°C and Aberporth in Ceredigion enjoyed over 15 hours of sunshine.

    The Gower Walking Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and I did a short walk through Bishop's Wood Nature Reserve near Caswell Bay on Saturday. The weather was cloudy but it stayed dry, warm and humid with a top temperature of 23°C.

    Normally May is the driest of the spring months in Wales with an average rainfall of 85.9mm, but this year it's been wetter with 124mm of rain, 45% more than usual.

    Usk in Monmouthshire was the warmest place in Wales yesterday with a top temperature of 19.8°C. Mind you, the nights have been cool this week, especially in land. In Bala in Gwynedd the temperature dropped to 1.9°C on Tuesday night with a ground frost.

    The weather was a bit mixed over the bank holiday weekend with the south and east enjoying the best of the sunshine. Since then, of course, the weather has turned cooler and more unsettled, but at least the gardens and allotments have had a watering.

    According to the Met Office April has been a warmer than average month in Wales, with the north being drier but parts of the south have been slightly wetter than normal.
