Yael Bartana wins 2010 Artes Mundi prize

Bartana, who was unable to make it to the announcement last night at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, follows in the footsteps of the previous winners NS Harsha, Eija-Liisa Ahtila and inaugural winner Xu Bing.

Professor Sarat Maharaj , who chaired the judging panel, said: "The incredibly high standard of work by the eight shortlisted artists - across painting, photography, film, video, sound, installation and drawing - made the jury's decision a difficult one."

Artes Mundi 4 will remain on display at the National Museum in Cardiff until 6 June 2010.
