Wales prepares for cliff diving's finest

Following on from last year's visit to the Blue Lagoon in Pembrokeshire - the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns to Wales on 13-14 September, 2013.

With three English divers, the United Kingdom is the most-represented nation within the World Series and that includes the current leader of the overall standings, Gary Hunt.

The circular lagoon with its high cliffs provides a Colosseum-like setting in the middle of Welsh farmland for 14 of the world’s best cliff divers.

A cliff diver launches off the platform into the Blue Lagoon

They will dive from a purpose built platform, as high up as an eight-storey building and reach speeds of up to 90kph as they hit the water.

It's a fabulous spectator sport and tickets sold out rapidly, following on from last year's successful event which was blessed with blue skies and sunshine.

Don't panic if you didn't get a ticket. Wales Today will be covering it and I will be there on Friday taking photos for a News Online photo gallery, so I hope the weather forecast improves!

In the meantime, take a look at my snaps from last year:
