99s with jungle juice on

Tagged with:

This week's show is now available via the BBC iPlayer. Please listen again any time between now and the start of the next programme.

Most years, the humid, cloudy skies of summer signal a downturn in musical productivity from our finest aurally-atuned minds.

Perhaps that slight rise in temperature turns musical brains into 99s with jungle juice on. Maybe it's the dawning of the festival season that signals a different kind of distraction for musicians. P'raps it's the fact that our universities and colleges empty young folk out onto the streets until late September - leaving them to fend for themselves in dens of iniquity and/or summer jobs that soak up all of their spare, musically-creative time as effectively as the squegee they're having to wipe across that car body, to clear the student loan.

Most summers signal a dip in the amount of interesting music that I have to play and a peak in the amount of balderdash that flows out of my gob.

But not this summer. Not yet, anyway.

We have debut plays for Altered States of America, The Boy Least Likely To, Summer of Blood, Squidthief, Coetmor, Endaf, Luther, Castro and Gil Gillespie.

If you have excellent music created by Welsh musical minds, or minds based in Wales, or featured on labels based in Wales, then please send them to me as a download link at themysterytour@gmail.com or via the BBC Introducing Uploader.

Elsewhere in the show, Alan Holmes blesses us with a rarely heard gem from Ffa Coffi Pawb. and Ben Hayes glories in Soul Survivors.

Enjoy the mugginess.

Mine's a Long Island Iced Tea, if anyone's asking.
