Crown Jewels and Compensation

Victoria Derbyshire | 10:02 UK time, Friday, 13 November 2009

At ten o clock this morning the review of sport's "crown jewels" is expected to recommend that the home Ashes tests and international football qualifiers for the home nations should return to free-to-air TV. David Davies, the former executive director of the FA, who's been leading the review will be taking your calls from 12 today. And we'll get reaction from Giles Clarke - the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Plus, we'll examine the case of Jay jones. Jay - the three year old boy who was attacked with a car jack eleven times by his friend who was also three at the time. A landmark ruling has decided he IS entitled to compensation and could get up to twenty thousand pounds. We'll speak to his mother.

Why aren't the parents of the boy who attacked the other child being sued? Why does the taxpayer have to pay for the compensation? I don't understand why if a child is under the age of criminal liability the criminal injuries board have to pay out????

I have been getting great listener satisfaction by tuning into Radio 4 for the last few weeks. The You and Yours programme at midday is brilliant.

I thought today I'll try once more and I'll give Victoria the benefit of the doubt yet again over her presenting skills but was dismayed to find her asking one of her cohorts, yet again,to repeat something he had already broadcast ( regarding sports coverage ) because she didn't understand what he had just explained.I never hear other broadcasters do this. How ill mannered can you get ? If I can understand it why can't Victoria ?

Ah well back to Radio 4.

I agree with Zelda, it was so obvious that pound signs were the only motivating factor for this woman no matter how much she protests.
She said he had no lasting physical injuries but who knows what phychological effects, well maybe if his mother stops banging on about what was a vicious attack in her pursuit of wonga then he may, like most 3, 4, 5 year olds, forget about it.

Of course it's a relief that the three year old victim did not suffer extensive permanent injuries. But as regards compensation, what next?

The real question should be why were two three year olds alone in a car with access to a car jack which, one of whom clearly thought was a toy.

If anything the parents of both should have been prosecuted. Before long they'll be banning nursery schools on suspicion of breeding terrorists or hardened criminals.

Only heard a bit of the interview but the obvious question now is what's the mother going to do with the compensation once she gets it. Give it to children in need?
