How's the recession affecting you?
So, Britain is STILL in recession. Official figures released this morning show the economy shrank for the sixth quarter in a row -- that's the longest downturn since records began in the fifties.
The 0.4 percent slump came as a surprise to experts who'd predicted the economy would grow between July and September.

Only the government believes that we are coming out of recession. Fiddling whilst Rome burns springs to mind. Hang on, though - I could have sworn I heard myself being told from on high that Gordon "saved the world." He hasn't even saved Britain - and won't - let alone the rest of the world. I suspect that was more the US and EUs doing.

You keep exhorting us to comment on the blog; we would if it was kept up to date. You still have Friday's topic (which itself was posted after the show). It is now Tuesday.
If it's problematic then maybe a board or two could be reinstated and we could post there?

28th October - There are no blogs for any of the subjects being covered today with the man who is standing in for VD. Why not????
Keep up BBC - you closed the boards now you could at least keep the blogs up to date!

They might as well close those, too, Zelly - for all the interest they show in this new means of listener "interactivity." If they're spending our money on it they should at least justify the expense by keeping their finger on the pulse (or perhaps it is still "taking Hull's pulse?!).

I've just noticed the Drive header on the home page (for Tuesday) says, "UK weather for Mon night..."

And Evan Davis's blog hasn't been updated since July. What is the point of the blogs?

The only reason we are not coming out of it as quick as everyone else, is that we have spent less on doing so. We would still be in it and in great pain, if the Conservatives had their way.

I can't find a job in the UK or Ireland that pays enough to cover my
outgoings. I work in the oil and gas industry. As well as the recession I have to contend with greedy companies taking advantage of the current government policies on immigration. Not only do those companies send engineering work overseas to cheap low-cost centres but they also import cheap labour by opening overseas offices and then bring their new foreign employees into the UK "on secondment". How does this practice conform to EU regulations? How can it be legal to import cheap labour from Asia in preference to giving jobs to EU nationals? It obviously makes financial sense to the companies concerned but why does the law allow jobs in the EU to be taken by non-EU nationals when there are enough jobless suitably qualified people available?
I'm forced to work overseas as a result. For a time it was an adventure but it's not so much fun when you want to be at home but can't.
What happened to Brown's jobs for the British? Another lie no doubt.
